Hair Analysis and Nutritional Balancing

Dr Matthew D.Holmes, Chiropractor
Hi, I’m Dr Holmes, the Chiropractor at the Diamond Valley Brain Centre. I offer hair mineral analysis consultations at the Centre because in my opinion hair analysis, and the nutritional balancing program developed from it, offers one of the best approaches to assess the health state of the patient and offer deep correction. Hair analysis and nutritional balancing is not for everyone. The process requires commitment (at least 18 months of work) and patience.
What conditions is hair analysis and nutritional balancing used for?
I use hair analysis and nutritional balancing primarily for the following conditions:
- Fatigue – general fatigue and chronic fatigue syndrome
- Adrenal burnout
- Fibromyalgia
- Migraine
- Fertility issues
What does hair analysis show?
Hair analysis simply shows the mineral levels present in the hair at the time of testing. However from those levels we extrapolate what is occurring in the adrenal glands, thyroid glands and the body’s detoxification systems. The hair chart is used to show a person’s oxidation rate as determined from the first four minerals on the chart which are calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. People are either fast, slow or mixed oxidation types and this is determined by the ratios of these four minerals. Fast oxidation types generally correspond to the early or ‘alarm’ stage of stress. In this stage the adrenal and thyroid glands are overactive.

The hair analysis chart of someone in fast oxidation.
Slow oxidation as determined by hair analysis is when the thyroid and adrenal glands are more into an exhaustion stage and are lowered in their activity. Other terms for this may be adrenal exhaustion or adrenal burnout. This corresponds to an exhaustion stage of stress.
Nutritional balancing programs aim to balance the mineral ratios and strengthen the adrenal and thyroid glands.
But what about toxic minerals?
The nutritional balancing approach that I use is different from the approaches used by most practitioners who use hair analysis. Most practitioners use the hair chart to search for toxic minerals as the sole purpose of the analysis. They then seek to remove these toxic minerals from the body with things called chelation agents. Unfortunately this process is very stressful for the body as it often depletes the good and well as the toxic minerals. Whilst toxic minerals are important, far more important is the energy levels of the body. The ability of the body to excrete toxic minerals depends on the body’s detoxification systems. With low energy it can be that the body simply doesn’t have the resources to excrete these minerals, hence the accumulate in the tissues. The aim of a nutritional balancing program is to strengthen the body. As you do this the body will begin to excrete the toxic minerals of its own accord.
What does a nutritional balancing program cost?
The initial consultation with me is AU$130, and at the time of writing the hair test is US$81. The cost of supplements varies from person to person as each program is unique, but a ballpark figure is AU$150-AU$200 per month.
I don’t live in Melbourne, can I still consult with you?
Attending my clinic is preferred but I understand that distance is an issue hence I do distance consultations for people who are not able to attend the clinic. When doing distance consultations you must ensure that you have attended a local registered health care practitioner to make certain that there are not other diseases or conditions causing your symptoms. If you wish to consult at a distance please contact me via the form below.
